For professionals supporting carers & parents who support complex needs
Many carers and professionals supporting complex needs experience significant secondary trauma; a vicarious type of trauma that impacts the whole body
“The expectation that we can be immersed in suffering and loss daily and not be touched by it is as unrealistic as expecting to be able to walk through water without getting wet.”
Dr Bessel van der Kolk
As well as considering the child & adult with FASD, professionals need time to reflect on the weight that carers & parents can carry and the impact of deeply embedded trauma, thinking in the moment and adapting strategies swiftly.
The session offers that space to consider the wider family; we take a pause together to consider compassion fatigue and vicarious forms of trauma where we look at different ways to support needs.
We take a look at stuck cases through a different lense and look at the impact of navigating this high level of support.
We adapt our courses around needs so please ask us to consider your team individually where you will need to have the 'Introduction to FASD' first to then lead the theory on to each CPD session where we will endeavour to find the right blend to suit you.
